Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) Governor Yubaraj Khatiwada said the development of agriculture sector along with service and industrial sectors are essential for the long-term economic development of country.

Speaking at a workshop ´Investment in Agriculture- Challenges and Opportunities´ organised by the Independent Business News Pvt. Ltd., pro on Friday, Khatiwada also urged the banks and financial institutions (BFIs) to increase the volume of credit in the agriculture sector by extending their services to the rural areas.

Saying that the investment in agriculture is short-term instead of long-term, Khatiwada said that the central bank has given top priority to this sector for the economic development.

On the occasion, President of Nepal Bankers´ Association (NBA) Ashok Rana said the bankers were taking steps to expand their branches in rural areas. nepalnews.com
