The government has directed the Ministry of Energy to proceed with the remaining works of the 750-MW West Seti Hydropower Project through Investment Board (IB).
The Prime Minister Office on Thursday issued such directives following the direction of the Parliamentary Committee on Natural Resources and Means on March 28.
The government has also formed the committee under the leadership of IB chairman Radesh Pant including joint secretaries from Finance, Energy and Law Ministries.
The government has also asked the committee to come up with the report within three days regarding the action plan and process of the project.
The government and the China Three Gorges Corporation (CTGC) had signed the memorandum of understanding (MoU) on February 29 for the construction of the project.
However, the parliamentary committee had stalled the implementation of the project for the time being, questioning its legality. Later, the committee allowed the government to carry out the project after fulfilling legal obligations through IB.
As per the IB Act, the construction of more than 500 MW hydropower projects should be under IB. nepalnews.com
