The Committee on the Distribution of Natural Resources, Financial Rights and Public Revenue of the Constituent Assembly on Thursday proposed a three-month ban on real estate transactions to check the haphazard "plotting" of land in mainly the urban areas of the country.

Shanta Chaudhary, the Committee's chairperson, tabled the proposal that also directed the Ministry of Land Reforms and Management to not issue permits for plotting of land for three months.

Lawmakers from the Nepali Congress and CPN-UML supported Chaudhary's proposal while the Maoist lawmakers strongly opposed it saying that stopping real estate transactions is not "practical".

The meeting also formed a sub-committee to prepare a report on the rampant plotting of land being done in the urban areas of the country. nepalnews.com
