The government of Kuwait has raised the salary of Nepali workers who have been working in very low wages for a long time as per the request by the government of Nepal, Karobar Daily reported.

The embassy of Nepal based in Kuwait took upon itself  the task of lobbying for the increase in salary and other benefits for Nepali workers after they complained of not getting appreciable salary compared to their work and working period.

Kuwait has raised the amount by NRs. 4,400 per month. With the increase, the salary of the unskilled migrants has reached 60 Kuwait Dinar (around Rs. 13, 200) from 40 Dinar (around Rs 8,800).

Similarly, Kuwait government has also raised the wages of semi-skilled and skilled migrants on the same ratio.

According to Madhuban Poudel, ambassador of Nepal to Kuwait, the embassy has been requesting the government of Kuwait to increase the wages as the workers employed in construction sector have to face many kinds of hazards which are threatening to their lives.

He believes that the increment in the wages could also attract more Nepali workers to Kuwait.  Currently, there are more than 25,000 Nepali migrants workers in Kuwait. Nepalnews.com
