After a month-long internal wrangling, the UCPN (Maoist) has largely resolved the internal dispute on key issues including the distribution of party responsibilities to senior leaders and reshuffling of the party’s team in the current government.

The new alliance of vice chairman-duo Mohan Baidya and Baburam Bhattarai agreed to chairman Dahal’s proposal on division of responsibilities during today’s central committee (CC) meeting according to which Baidya will head the organisation department while Bhattarai will chair the parliamentary board.

Similarly, general secretary Ram Bahadur Thapa will in-charge of the military commission and vice chairman Narayan Kaji Shrestha will head the party’s team in the Jhala Nath Khanal’s government. Shrestha will also be given the Home Ministry.

In exchange to these concessions from Dahal, the rival faction has given up its demand to replace Dahal as the parliamentary party leader by Bhattari.

“Both the vice chairman agreed to the main spirit of the revised proposal of chairman Dahal,” Maoist spokesperson Dina Nath Sharma said after the CC meeting.

According to him, the CC will further dwell on Dahal’s proposal on Sunday.

Meanwhile, Maoist politburo member Devendra Poudel told Nepalnews that a tentative agreement was reached between the two sides in yesterday’s office-bearers’ meeting.

He also claimed that the party is going to propose Bhattarai for the Prime Minister should the party get a chance to lead the government. nepalnews.com
