The cantonments of the Maoist People’s Liberation Army (PLA) and their weapons will come fully under the Army Integration Special Committee (AISC) from Thursday.
A meeting of the AISC held on Wednesday decided to take the command and control of the cantonments and the weapons.
The keys of the weapon containers would be handed over to the Special Committee through the cantonment monitors. There are seven main cantonment sites and 21 satellite camps.
It was the first meeting of the Special Committee since the formation of the new government under Dr Baburam Bhattarai.
Earlier today, the three main political parties – UCPN (Maoist), Nepali Congress and UML – agreed to take immediate steps to bring the Maoist combatants under the AISC as part of the efforts for their integration and rehabilitation. nepalnews.com
