Opposition parties NC and CPN-UML on Thursday said they will continue with their protest programs including planned boycott of House session until the government scraps its recent decision to legalise land and property transactions carried out by parallel governments (called “people’s government”) run by the UCPN (Maoist) party during the decade-long insurgency.

A meeting of the second and third largest party in the Constituent Assembly (CA) held at Singha Durbar this afternoon concluded that the decision was against the interim constitution, Comprehensive Peace Accord (CPA) including the law of the land and urged the government not to enforce it as that can create all sorts of obstruction in the ongoing peace and constitution drafting processes.

Emerging from the meeting, UML chairman Jhala Nath Khanal said that the both his party and Nepali Congress have serious reservation against the decision to enforce the decision taken by Maoist parallel governments. He informed that the two parties have agreed to put pressure on the government to withdraw the decision at the earliest.

Nepali Congress (NC) general secretary had on Wednesday said the Maoist-led government should withdraw the decision as it seriously undermines the judicial system of the country.

Opposition parties have already boycotted the House session demanding that the government scrap its decision that is a serious threat to the peace process.

Meanwhile, the Supreme Court today issued a stay order on the government decision to legalise the land and property transactions carried out by parallel governments run by the Maoist party during insurgency period.

A single bench of Chief Justice Khil Raj Regmi stayed the government’s decision and asked the government to submit a written clarification over the move. nepalnews.com
