The government of Indian state of Bihar has initiated the process of withdrawing criminal cases against 11 Nepali Maoist leaders which are pending in Patna District Court for nearly eight years.

The Patna Sessions Court on Friday would hear the petition requesting withdrawal of cases against the Maoist leaders - Shyam Kishore Prasad Yadav, Kul Bahadur KC, Chitra Bahadur Shrestha, Lokendra Bist, Kumar Dahal, Hit Bahadur Tamang, Anil Sharma, Dilip Maharaj, Prasad Apagai, Ranju Thapa and Suman Tamang facing cases of conspiracy and anti-India activities.

Public prosecutor Jai Prakash Singh had on Wednesday filed a petition on behalf of the Bihar government to withdraw cases against Nepali leaders who were arrested from Patna hotels in raids on May 2, 2004 and released on bail in 2006.

"As desired by the Ministry of Home Affairs, we have pleaded that all these Nepal leaders are holding important positions in Nepal politics today. Withdrawal of cases against these leaders would only help strengthen out bilateral ties," Singh was quoted as saying by the local media.

The hearing on the criminal cases against the Nepal leaders scheduled for Thursday in the Court was deferred by a day due to technical reasons, according to Singh. nepalnews.com
