The ruling UCPN (Maoist) has decided to support the report submitted by the majority members of the State Restructuring Commission (SRC) which proposes 11 federal provinces.

A Maoist office bearers meeting held on Saturday at parliamentary party office in Singha Durbar took the decision to this effect. However, the meeting also decided to hold discussions seeking more clarity on the recommendation of the commission.

“Though the party decided to support the model of 11 provinces, we still need to discuss on some issues like the relevancy and definition of ‘non-geographical dalit state among other’, said Maoist leader Dev Gurung.

The SRC had submitted its report to the government, proposing 11-state federal model based on ethnicity and language on Tuesday. However, minority members had prepared a separate report proposing a six-state federal model based on geographical lines. Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai has already handed over both of the reports to CA chairman Subas Nemwang for the presentation in the CA. nepalnews.com
