President Dr. Ram Baran Yadav has urged the top leaders of major three political parties – UCPN (Maoist), Nepali Congress and CPN (UML) – to complete the remaining tasks of peace and constitution drafting so as to create an amicable environment for promulgation of the constitution within the May 28 deadline.

President Yadav made this call during a meeting with UCPN (Maoist) chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal, NC president Sushil Koirala and CPN (UML) chairman Jhala Nath Khanal at the Office of the President, Shital Niwas, on Wednesday.

He also expressed concern over the delay seen in the ongoing peace and constitution drafting processes in light of political parties’ decision to review the Constituent Assembly calendar for the third time and other contentious issues that is causing political deadlock in the country.

In response, the top leaders of three major political parties assured that they will forge broad consensus among the poltical parties to ensure that the constitution is promulgated within the extended time period. They also claimed that the peace process is progressing at a satisfactory pace

The latest political situation including the secessionist remark made by Minister for Information and Communication JP Gupta also featured prominently in the meeting, it is learnt.

During the meeting , President Yadav was especially riled by JP Gupta’s recent statement -- that Madhesh can sever its ties with Nepal and join India.

He has already asked PM Bhattarai to reprimand Gupta for making such anti-national remark that is against the nation’s integrity. nepalnews.com
