The Janakpur-Jayanagar Railway, the only railway service in Nepal, has been shut down for indefinite period from Wednesday.

The Janakpur-Jayanagar Railway Employees Union forcibly closed down the service protesting against the reinstatement of Suresh Yadav to the post of General Manager in Nepal Railway Service.

The union has been demanding that the government take back its decision to reinstate Yadav, accusing him of massive corruption and irregularities during his previous stint at the railway service.

Few months backs, locals of Mahottari had obstructed the survey work of Janakpur- Jayanagar Railway that had begun with the purpose of its expansion and converting it into a broad gauge.

Currently, the railway service only in 29 kilometres from Janakpur to Jayanagar is in operation. nepalnews.com
