A woman was burnt to death by a group of people after accusing her of practicing witchcraft in Madi of Chitwan district Friday morning.

Thegani Devi Mahato, 40, of Bhagauda-2, was mercilessly beaten by a group of five to seven people and set on fire by pouring kerosene on her body while she was still alive, police said.   She breathed her last shortly after.

Police said ten people in the area have been arrested in suspicion of their involvement in the heinous murder.

Madi area remained tense after the incident.

Police said they are investigating the case and that the main culprits will soon be identified.

In many terai parts of Nepal, women accused of witchcraft have been killed in similar fashion after being mercilessly beaten or humiliated by forcibly making them eat human excreta. nepalnews.com
