A much awaited meeting of the Army Integration Special Committee (AISC) on Tuesday could not arrive at any decision on the integration of the Maoist combatants.
The meeting was cut short after the AISC members from the Nepali Congress and the UML rejected the proposal presented by Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai, who heads the committee.
AISC member Ram Saran Mahat said PM Bhattarai's proposal was similar to the one presented by the Nepal Army and that it was not acceptable to the NC and the UML. "The proposal is not in line with the seven-point agreement," he said after the meeting.
According to him, the PM's document stressed only on the number of personnel required for the general directorate and the ranks, instead of the procedures and the norms for integration.
AISC member from the UML Bhim Rawal also said the proposal was against the spirit of the seven-point agreement and that it needed further discussion.
Next meeting of the committee is scheduled to take place on Friday. nepalnews.com
