The government has decided to register a bill in the parliament to make amendment to the Article 70 of the Interim Constitution to shorten the procedure for the promulgation of new constitution.

The meeting of the Council of Ministers held this evening took the decision to this effect to pave the way for the promulgation of new constitution within the stipulated time.

The May 27 deadline is not sufficient for the parties to promulgate new constitution as per the existing constitutional provision due to their failure to forge consensus on the key issues related to the constitution drafting.

The cabinet meeting also formed a three-member panel headed by Supreme Court justice Krishna Basyal to investigate the murder of Jhapa-based journalist Yadav Poudel.

The cabinet also decided to provide Rs 1 million to 81 years old Min Bahadur Sherchan, the oldest conqueror of the Mt Everest. nepalnews.com
