The three major parties – NC, UML and UCPN (Maoist) – including United Democratic Madhesi Front (UDMF) are all set to sign a comprehensive agreement to pave the way for formation of national unity government on Thursday.

The three parties and Madhesi front, who have reached a tentative understanding on all disputed issues of constitution drafting - will sign the agreement during a top-level meeting at 1 pm today.

Earlier this morning, ruling coalition partners Maoist and UDMF held discussion on the formation of a new national unity government while NC and UML are also engaged in internal meetings for the same.

The three parties and UDMF on Wednesday night agreed in principle to form new national unity government to replace the current government to ensure constitution by the May 27 deadline. However, they said Baburam Bhattarai will continue to remain the prime minister of the country until May 27, only to be replaced by a NC-led government, which will also promulgate the new constitution.

Meanwhile, the Cabinet meeting is currently underway at Singha Durbar to formally dissolve the current Cabinet.

After the meeting, PM Bhattarai is expected to address the nation and invite the political parties to form a new national unity government under his leadership within two days. nepalnews.com
