Leaders of 22 opposition political parties jointly met President Ram Baran Yadav at Shital Niwas Wednesday afternoon, requesting him to not to approve the budget to be presented by the Maoist-Madhesi government.

The opposition parties submitted a formal letter to the President in which they argued that the caretaker government had no right to introduce the budget through ordinance as such a move would not only be unconstitutional but against the spirit of consensus.

During the discussion, the opposition leaders also requested the President to make a call to the parties to form a national unity government.

Before the meeting with the leaders of the 22 parties, CPN-UML leader Madhav Kumar Nepal had met the President, informing about the decision the opposition parties to make an appeal to him on their demands.

Leaders of the newly formed CPN-Maoist and Upendra Yadav-led Broader Madhesi Front, which are also part of the opposition alliance, were not present in the meeting with the President. nepalnews.com
