The number of Bhutanese refugees resettled in third countries as per the resettlement plan of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) has reached 48,763 as of July 15, according to the UNHCR.
Most of them – 40,971 - have been resettled in various states of the United States of America (USA).
Likewise, 3,215 have been resettled in Canada, 2,720 in Australia, 563 in New Zealand, 483 in Denmark, 372 in Norway, 228 in Netherlands, and 111 United Kingdom.
UNHCR has estimated that only about 10,000 refugees will remain in the camp by mid-2015. At present the population of Bhutanese refugees staying in various six camps in Jhapa and Morang is about 64,311. nepalnews.com
