On the same day bird flu outbreak was confirmed in Sunsari district, local authorities in Ilam Sunday said the the similar case was detected in Ilam district also.

Ilam district-level bird flu disease control committee confirmed the bird flue in Phakphok of Ilam. The tests on a sample of the dead chicken at a laboratory based in London, England confirmed that the chickens at the poultry firms run by farmers Dil Bahadur Khadka and Bhuwanti Chemjong of Phakphok-2 died of avian influenza.

Earlier today, the government authorities had confirmed outbreak of bird flu in Sunsari district where 5,000 chickens had died at two poultries.

The tests on a sample of the dead chicken at the same laboratory  confirmed that the chickens at two poultries in Khanar and Itahari died of bird flu, according to programme director of the directorate of National Animal Health (DNAH) Dr Ram Krishna Khatiwada.

The authorities said they have started to adopt preventive measures to stop the spread of bird flu in the districts. Other government agencies in the districts have also been put on high alert.

Bird flu detection is declared only after the Central Veterinary Disease Control Laboratory gets confirmation from international lab due to the lack of lab facility in the country. The laboratory sends sample to the UK for the final confirmation after conducting preliminary lab test here. nepalnews.com
