A one-horned rhino has been found dead in Chitwan National Park. The rhino was found dead in Bel Sahar community forest of the national park area.
According to national park officials, the rhino might have died in the attack by other rhinos. The physical condition of the rhino does not show any indication of poachers’ involvement as the valuable horn was not cut off from the dead rhino.
National Rhino Census 2011 shows that there are 5,34 rhinos in Nepal, marking an increase of 99 rhinos from the 4,35 recorded in the previous census in 2008.
Of that total, 503 rhinos were recorded in Chitwan National Park, 24 in Bardiya National Park and 7 in Shuklaphanta Wildlife Reserve. nepalnews.com
