Six persons were killed when a massive fire broke out at Kalimati Fruits and Vegetable Market in the capital on Saturday night. One person was also injured in the incident.
The deceased have been identified as Hira Bahadur Pun, his son Nirajan and daughter Leela. Identities of three others are yet to be ascertained, police said.
Pun, who was originally from Dang district, was a vegetable seller at the market.
Pun’s unidentified wife, who sustained serious burn injuries, is receiving medical care at Army Hospital in Chhauni. Her condition is said to be very critical.
The fire that broke at around 10:30 pm last night was taken under control by a team of fire fighters helped by rescue team comprising of Nepal Army and Nepal Police personnel and locals. It took 6 fire engines from all three districts of the capital to douse the fire hours later.
Although electric short circuit is said to be the cause of the fire, but police has not confirmed it yet. Property worth millions of rupees is believed to have been gutted in the fire.
Fire fighters also faced difficulties to douse the fire as the fire was intense in the market which remains busy even in the night. nepalnews.com
