The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) on Sunday arrested Murari Prasad Nepal, undersecretary at the Foreign Employment Promotion Board (FEPB), on charges of misusing Rs 40 million from the state coffers.

CIAA said that Nepal was arrested for misusing over Rs 40 million from state coffers while he was Local Development Officer (LDO) in Bara district two years ago.

A CIAA team investigating his involvement in the misappropriation of fund, found his direct involvement in the misappropriation of development budget during his brief stint as Bara LDO.

CIAA said it will produce Nepal before the Special Court seeking permission to remand him to judicial custody for investigation.

Preliminary investigation of CIAA found that the former LDO was involved in doling out money to local politicians and consumers groups without following government guidelines and embezzled development budget and budget for Parliamentarians’ Development Fund. nepalnews.com
