Most people displaced from their houses in Patalkot and other VDCs of Achham due to landslides are suffering from illnesses like fever, cold, pneumonia and diarrhea, Annapurna Post daily reported.

Such diseases have spread in the camp they are staying in because of excessive cold and polluted water.

A three year old child Mansari Buda, who was suffering from pneumonia, died Sunday as she did not get treatment.

The displaced are kept under a tent in an open area. There is a health post nearby, but there is no health worker. Â

Most of the children and eldery in the camp are ill. They have not been able to get proper treatment, said Khadga Bahadur Buda, who is also staying in the camp.

About two dozen persons were killed and more than 200 families displaced when landslides occurred in Patalkot, Siddheswar and other VDCs of Achham last week.

The displaced are also suffering from lack of food. We are living on beaten rice and polluted water, said Nirmala Bohara.

Achham’s Chief District Officer (CDO) Gyan Prasad Dhakal said, he had already directed the Public health office to sent health workers to the camp.

Likewise, flood victims in Kailali are also suffering from lack of food. Those displaced by floods in Kailali have been taking refuge at various safer places in the district.

Although, district chapter and sub chapters of Nepal Red Cross Society has distributed beaten rice and instant noodles to the displaced, the food has not been sufficient, reports say.
