Buddhist monks praying at Bouddha Stupa to mark the 2556th Buddha Jayanti... The 2556th Buddha Jayanti, the birth anniversary of Gautam Buddha, is being observed across the country by organising various programmes on Sunday.

Different organisastions have organised programmes to mark Buddha’s birth anniversary with the message of peace and harmony among the people.

A special function is organised in Lumbini, the birth-place of Buddha, each year to mark the Buddha Jayanti. As the birth, enlightenment and Nirvana of Lord Buddha falls on the same day of the full moon of the fourth lunar month (month of Baisakh), Buddhists around the world, including Nepal, observe Buddha Jayanti with respect and devotion to Buddha.

The United Nations has also been observing the Anniversary of Lord Buddha as a public holiday since 2002. nepalnews.com
