An outbreak of measles in Karauta VDC of Rupandehi district has killed four children in the past few days.

According to the District Public Health Office, the deceased have been identified as 3-year-old Sunny Dewal Kewat,  four-year-old Nandani Kewat, one-year-old Arati Yadav, and one and half year old Junior Ali Mansuri. They were all from Karauta-3, Ganeshpur.

Two more children - Niraj Harijan and Durgesh Kewat, both four-year-old boys from Karauta-9 - are undergoing medical care under critical condition at Bhairahawa Universal Medical College.

Some 65 children of the same village have already been affected by measles and are undergoing treatment at various hospitals in the district.

A team of doctors and health professionals have been dispatched to the village affected by the measles outbreak to carry out blood tests and provide medical treatment to patients.

Measles, called Dadura in Nepali, is an infection of the respiratory system caused by a virus. nepalnews.com
