Khagendra Thapa Magar, thought to be the world's shortest adult, has turned 18 on Wednesday.

His 18th birthday was celebrated amid much fanfare in Pokhara, yesterday. His height is just 18 inches and the weight is about 5 kg.

Now, Thapa Magar's family is all set to submit an application to the Guniess Book of World Records to recognise him as the world's shorterst man.

The application submitted four years ago, was rejected because at just 14 he was too young to qualify. He also took a citizenship certificate last year, which gives him an official identity to apply for the record.

Thapa Magar was born in Dhullu Baskot, Baglung in 1992. He weighed only 600 grams at birth, according to family sources. He started walking only at the age of eight.

At present, the Guinness Book of Records website lists late Gul Mohammed of New Delhi as the shortest adult human being ever, at 22 inches.

The current record for world's shortest living man is held by He Pingping of China, who is 28.7 inches tall. nepalnews.com
