The condition of the Chure area in Sunsari district has been deteriorating with the increasing forest destruction and environmental degradation in Panchkanya, Bishnupaduka and Barahachhetra VDCs.

The valuable plants in the Chure area of the Barahachhetra and Bishnupaduka VDCs have been disappearing and wild life has also been going to be extinct gradually, locals told RSS.

Fertile land has been destroyed rapidly because of regular landslides for long due to the destruction of forests in the area illegally, and landslide has badly affected various wards of Bishnupaduka.

Large landslides have occurred in various wards of Bishnupaduka, north-west of Dharan municipality and the historical Surya Kunda Lake has been nonexistent due to this.

Water sources have been drying up in the Dharan and Bishnupaduka area and settlements have been in trouble because of the frequent landslides without any measures being taken for their control.

Bharat Bahadur Khatri of Bishnupaduka told RSS harro barro, devre lahara and other high value plants and trees are extinct in the forest and fertile land has been buried in Patnali area of Barahachhetra VDC.

The Pachkanya VDC's area north of Devi Gaun has also been under the effect of landslide, said former VDC Chairman Ramesh Kumar Basnet. Likewise, Sardukhola area of Dharan is also being in crisis because of the Bishnupaduka area, north-west of Dharan-13.

If the landslide is not controlled in time, dozens of homes in the hilly area of the three VDCs will be in risk.

With the destruction of important plants, important wild life have also been disappearing, said ex-chairman of Bishnupaduka VDC, Mani Raj Rai. nepalnews.com
