Chapagaon area in Lalitpur remains tense with demonstrations and obstruction of traffic, two days after two youths were assaulted in accusation of child abduction.

Locals have obstructed traffic and started demonstrations since early Sunday morning demanding the police to free those detained during the Saturday’s demonstrations and allow the locals to punish the two accused of child abduction.

Locals had severely beaten up Amrit Bhusal and Durga Bahadur Maharjan on Friday accusing them of trying to abduct children. Police had arrested the two and taken them for treatment at Patan Hospital. They are still undergoing treatment under police protection.

Locals of Chapagaon staged demonstrations and gheraoed the police post throughout the day Saturday asking the police to allow the villagers to punish those accused of child abduction. Some demonstrators were injured in the clashes that followed.

A child who was returning from coaching classes has got severely injured by rubber bullets fired by the police. He received almost ten bullets and is undergoing treatment at Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital. nepalnews.com Jun 28 09
