Firefighters trying to douse fire that broke out inside a house near Basantapur...

Reports quoted eyewitnesses as saying that the fire started after a cooking gas cylinder exploded in a fast-food restaurant housed on the ground floor of the building. Fire soon broke out and the restaurant staff and customers had to jump from the upper floor windows to save their lives. They sustained burn injuries and fractures in the process.

The injured have been admitted to the Bir Hospital and are out of danger, it is learnt.

Locals of Basantapur were gripped with fear of fire spreading to their houses when they heard about the blaze. Most of the houses here are tightly juxtaposed to each other.

With the help from police and army personnel, the firefighters from the nearby fire brigade finally managed to douse the blaze.

It was not known how much damage the fire caused to the building or if there were any major loss of life or property. nepalnews.com
