At least two dozen people were injured, three critically, when a bus they were travelling in met with an accident in Jhapa district on Thursday.

The accident occurred when the bus (Me 1 Kha 1272) heading for Gauradaha from Lakhanpur overturned when it tried to avoid hitting a jaywalking pedestrian at Dadhichowk.

Around 25 people including passengers and the pedestrian were injured in the road accident, District Police Office, Jhapa said.

Among the injured, 103-year-old Harimaya Pokhrel, Menuka Karki and Bal Bahadur Ghimire suffered critical injuries and are currently undergoing treatment at Neuro Hospital, Biratnagar. Other injured received primary treatment in local hospital in Jhapa and many have already been discharged.

Police said they have taken the bus driver into custody and investigating the reason behind the accident. nepalnews.com
