The Special Court on Friday sought a bail of Rs 150 million from Shambhu Bharati, one of the prime accused in the multimillion-dollar Sudan scam that has seen top police officers spend time in judicial custody over their involvement in the case.

A joint bench of Justiced Gauri Bahadur Karki, chairperson of the Special Court, including Om Prakash Mishra and Kedar Prasad Chalise sought the bail amount from Bharati, the owner of Bhagawati Traders, who is also the local agent of London based Assured Risks Ltd, that supplied faulty Armoured Personnel Carriers (APCs) and other logistics to the Nepal Police for its UN peacekeeping mission in Darfur of Sudan.

Bharati had been sent to judicial custody by the Special Court on Tuesday, July 26 following a hearing on the charges leveled against him in the case.

If Bharati fails to deposit the bail amount set by the Court today, he will again be sent to the judicial custody. nepalnews.com
