"The government will last longer if the Prime Minister's performance is good. If not, it will collapse," he said speaking to reporters at the Biratnagar airport before flying back to the capital Thursday. He didn't comment further on the matter.

Koirala's reaction comes amid speculations that he is not happy with Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal after he refused to elevate Foreign Minister Sujata Koirala to Deputy Prime Minister.

Saying that political consensus is the need of the hour, Koirala said the Maoists should also join the ruling coalition.

Asked about the growing skepticism over the timely drafting of the new constitution, the Congress strongman said he was confident that the task of constitution-drafting will not fall behind schedule.

Koirala, who arrived in his hometown Biratnagar Wednesday, held separate meetings with the representatives of the agitating Nepal Nursing Union (NNU) and the workers' union of Biratnagar Jute Mill in the morning, urging them to go for talks to get their demands addressed. nepalnews.com
