A group of unknown assailants enraged over publication of a news item related to arrest of criminals with weapons in today's edition, ransacked the office of the Naya Patrika National Daily at Kamalpokhari, Kathmandu.

According to the daily's editor Krishna Jwala Devkota, a group of about 10 men who said they belong to 'Don' gang forcibly entered the office today morning and vandalized the newsroom.

They broke office equipments including computers, telephones, fax machines, but no one was injured in the attack.

After vandalizing the office, they fled in their motorbikes.

Devkota said the vandals have threatened news staff that they will resort to further acts of violence and destruction if the daily continues to publish news against them.

He, however, said the incident will not deter the daily from its duty to inform the people and urged the government to take strong action against the miscreants by arresting them so that they won't be able to engage in such activities in the future.

Police said they have started investigation into the incident and are searching for the people involved in the vandalism. nepalnews.com
