The central committee meeting of the CPN (UML) endorsed party chairman Jhala Nath Khanal's political paper with some amendment Wednesday evening.

Khanal's paper was passed after all the CC members presented their comments on it. In his paper, the UML chairman has emphasised on national unity as a prerequisite for concluding the peace process and constitution-drafting. He has called for strengthening the party unity, CC member Yogesh Bhattarai said after the meeting.

Meanwhile, the UML CC has descried the Maoist-Madhesi government as an "opportunist coalition", concluding that the present government cannot be turned into a government of national consensus. However, the CC welcomed the government's initiative to return the properties seized by the Maoists during the insurgency.

The CC also concluded that the four-point agreement between the Maoists and the Madhesi Front was against "national interest and national independence" and that it would not take forward the peace process and constitution-drafting. nepalnews.com
