Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal addressed a function organised by the general administration ministry to mark the function Monday morning.

PM Nepal highlighted the importance of civil service saying the success or failure of a government depends on the performance of civil servants as it is also considered a permanent government.

He also urged the civil servants to get rid of prevalent ill-practices like corruption and procrastination that has marred the civil service.

There is a need for making the civil service more disciplined and service-oriented, Nepal said.

However, the PM criticised the civil servants of engaging in criticism of others instead of fulfilling their responsibilities.

He said, people can't still feel the civil servants are there for the service of the nation or the people.

"We lack the dynamism and coordination to fulfill the need of the hour," PM Nepal added.

PM Nepal also informed the (MoGA) was soon going to be changed into Human Resources Ministry.

On the occasion of the 54th Civil Service Day, the government has awarded 20 civil servants for their outstanding performance in civil service.

Five of them have been awarded with the Best Civil Service Award that includes a certificate of merit and a cash prize of Rs 100,000 and the remaining 15 have been awarded with a prize that includes a certificate of merit and a cash prize of Rs 50,000.

Under Secretaries Ananda Raj Dhakal, Keshav Prasad Regmi and Nirmal Hari Adhikary, account officer Bhagirath Shah and Surendra Kumar Bajracharya have been awarded with the Best Civil Service Award. nepalnews.com
