The district court of Manang has convicted 19 people for the murder of seven villagers from Gorkha in Nar village in 2009 when they had gone there to pick Yarsagumba.

Giving its verdict on Monday, the district court handed down 20-year jail sentence to six people and two years jail sentence to 13 others for the murder. Those getting 20-year jail sentence are: Nagya Dhawa Lama, Sonam Lama, Karma Urgen Lama, Ni Chhobang Lama, Sonam Funjo Lama and Sonam Lama.

However, the court gave clean chit to 21 others who were accused in the murder case.

The 13 people who have been handed down two years jail sentence each will walk free because they have already passed two years in custody during the trial.

Seven villagers from Gorkha were killed in a brutal attack by a group of people in Nar in July. They were chased and beaten to death for their unauthorised entry into the area to pick Yarsagumba. nepalnews.com
