Nepali Congress president Girija Prasad Koirala releases a book written and published by Purushottam Basnet (2nd left) "Nepali Congress Ko Itihas Ko Prarup" at a function in a capital today, Tuesday, Sept 22 09. nepalnews.com/ANA
President of the Nepali Congress Girija Prasad Koirala has indirectly opposed the idea of his party's proposal of latitudinal division of the nation while adopting federalism.

At a function organised in capital on Tuesday, Koirala said longitudinal division of the nation ensures it from disintegrating. However, he added he would not allow disintegration of the nation at any cost.

Revising the party's earlier stand to carve states on longitudinal basis, NC has recently proposed latitudinal division of the country.

Koirala said his party favors Westminster system in the country and opposed the Maoist proposal for presidential system of governance. He claimed that Maoists had earlier accepted the Westminster parliamentary system.

Koirala further said that absence of inter-party political mechanism has created intra-party conflict and differences among the political forces. He had held discussion on forming such mechanism with CPN (UML) chairman Jhala Nath Khanal earlier today. nepalnews.com
