Opposition parties- Nepali Congress and CPN-UML and other fringe parties Friday obstructed the meeting of the parliament demanding government decision of legalising the seized property during the Maoist insurgency be revoked.

Following the obstruction from the lawmakers of the opposition parties, speaker Subash Nemwang instructed the government to furnish the clarification in the parliament over the land deal issue.

Earlier today, seventeen political parties representing in the parliament including NC and UML had decided to continue obstructing the House until the government revokes its decision to legalise the transaction of the seized lands during the conflict period.

Earlier this month, the coalition government led by the Maoist party had decided to legitimise the transfer of ownership, use and transaction of the lands recognised by the then people’s government of the Maoist party.

The NC and UML have been saying that the cabinet decision was against the Comprehensive Peace Accord, Interim Constitution-2063 and the existing laws of the country. nepalnews.com
