Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai has assured that the government will not implement its decision to legalise land and property transactions made by Maoist run parallel governments during the decade-long insurgency "any time soon".

According to PM's aide Bishwodeep Panday, in a meeting held at PMO,  Singha Durbar this morning with main opposition party leaders  - Nepali Congress (NC) vice president Ram Chandra Poudel and CPN-UML senior leader Madhav Kumar Nepal - PM Bhattarai said that the government will not immediately implement the January 12 decision of the Cabinet following serious reservation of the opposition parties and SC's stay order on it.

In response, however, the opposition party leader asked PM to revoke the decision altogether, Pandey informed.

UCPN (Maoist) Chairman Puspa Kamal Dahal was also present at the meet.

Earlier, the coalition government led by the Maoist party had decided to legitimise the transfer of ownership, use and transaction of the lands recognised by the then people's government of the Maoist party.

The NC and UML have been saying that the cabinet decision was against the Comprehensive Peace Accord, Interim Constitution-2063 and the existing laws of the country.

The opposition parties NC and CPN -UML have been disrupting House sessions to exert pressure on the government to withdraw its controversial decision. nepalnews.com
