The House has been deferred again till January 29 after the opposition parties led by Nepali Congress and CPN-UML obstructed parliamentary proceeding on Friday.
This is the fifth time that the opposition parties have obstructed House proceedings to protest against the Maoist-led government’s decision to legalise the purchase and transfer of ownership of land and other properties recognised by the Maoist people’s governments during insurgency.
Lawmakers belonging to Rastriya Janashakti Party including NC and UML said they will continue to obstruct the parliament meeting until the controversial cabinet decision to legalise war-era land transactions is revoked.
Meanwhile, Sunil Prajapati of Nepal Peasants’ and Workers’ Party criticized PM Bhattarai for his recent remark that there is danger of Nepal either merging with India or China if the country doesn’t come out from the “buffer state mentality”.
