A meeting of the Constitutional Committee (CC) of the Constituent Assembly ended without any decision Friday as Maoist chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal and Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai remained absent in the debate.

The CC members had a brief discussion on right to self-determination, name of the new constitution and pluralism, but was nowhere close to reaching any consensus on these subjects.

In the meeting, lawmakers affiliated to the Mohan Baidya faction of the UCPN (Maoist) insisted that the issues agreed upon at the sub-committee should be discussed again.

The Maoist hardliners are against the sub-committee's decision not to make military training compulsory for adult citizens. They also want the Maoist insurgency described as 'people's war' in the new constitution. nepalnews.com
