The meeting of the Constitutional Committee (CC) held on Sunday ended without making any headway on the contentious issues as the top leaders of the three major parties- UCPN (Maoist), Nepali Congress and CPN-UML pledged to forge consensus after holding intensive discussions later today.
The meeting has been deferred after the leaders agreed to reach conclusion on the disputed issues of the constitution writing at the three party meeting scheduled for this afternoon.
The parties are yet to reach understanding on some issues such as the forms of the governance, electoral system and contents of the preamble in the constitution.
The Maoist hardliners are against the Sub-Committee's decision not to make military training compulsory for adult citizens. They also want the Maoist insurgency be described as 'people's war' in the new constitution. nepalnews.com
