Director of Asia- Pacific- Region for Department of Political Affairs of the United Nations, Tamrat Samuel called on Speaker Subash Nemwang on Monday.

United Nations representative Tamrat Samuel meets Constituent Assembly chairman Subas Nemwang at the latter's office in Singha Durbar...During the meeting, Tamrat expressed concern over  the delay seen in passing bills regarding the Truth and Reconciliation Commission and Commission on the Disappeared which are currently being considered at the Constituent Assembly.

He said the two bills should be passed immediately to bring to light the truth and ensure justice to victims. Tamrat also said that those found guilty of gross human rights abuses during the armed conflict in Nepal should not be given amnesty.

In response, Speaker Nemwang said that there was delay in passing the two important bills because the major political parties have not been able to forge an understanding on them.

During the meeting, matters relating to the current political situation in Nepal including the ongoing constitution drafting and peace processes were discussed. nepalnews.com
