Senior leader of opposition CPN (UML) and former prime minister Madhav Kumar Nepal on Friday warned that Nepal might have to face the situation Pakistan is facing now – of military coups and constant tussle between the Army and the government - if the political intervention in the nation’s army continues unabated.
“Nepal Army should be kept free from any kind of political intervention.
But if the intervention continues then the nation might face the situation Pakistan is currently facing,” he said while speaking at a programe in the capital this afternoon.
The senior UML leader said that the national political parties need to be aware that Nepal Army should be kept neutral and away from political influences and interventions so as to maintain national sovereignty and territorial integrity.
Saying that there is no alternative to a national consensus government to end the current political deadlock in the country, Nepal demanded that PM Bhattarai step down to pave the way for the formation of such a government that will ensure peace and constitution. nepalnews.com
