Bijay Kumar GachchhadarThe State Affairs Committee (SAC) of the parliament Friday sought clarification from Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Home Affairs Bijay Kumar Gachchhadar on his circular to the chief district officers (CDOs) to provide Nepali citizenship to the children of those who have acquired citizenship by virtue of birth.

SAC members asked him why he issued the circular which has now been stayed by the Supreme Court.

On his part, Gachchhadar revealed that he issued the circular at the pressure from the Madhesi Front and that he knew the SC would stay it.

However, Gachchhadar insisted that the direction does not breach the constitution and the laws and that it in line with the past agreements between the major parties and Madhesi Front.

He also said that he had not ordered the transfer of the CDO of Jhapa who publicly defied his direction on the citizenship issue. nepalnews.com
