Millions of school-going children stayed home today as Nepal Educational Republic Forum (NERF) and Nepal Teacher Union (NTU) closed down schools across the country on Sunday.

Teachers associated with both government and private schools staging a rally...Both the community-run and private schools have been closed as teachers have been protesting since the past few years demanding permanent status to all temporary teachers working in government schools by completing certain procedures and granting of facilities to all private school teacher at par with government school teachers.

Keeping in view the possible negative effect the school closure on Sunday will have on the studies of students, the teacher across the country had taken classes on Saturday, the official public holiday.

As part of their protests, the teachers organized sit-in protests in front of all the District Education Offices (DEOs) across the country.

Similarly in Kathmandu Teachers organised protest rallies and picketed the Ministry of Education at Kesharmahal this afternoon.

Thousands of teachers across the country are working on contract basis in both public and private schools. nepalnews.com
