United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-moon’s Nepal visit has been postponed. Ban was scheduled to arrive in Nepal on 28 April on the invitation of National Lumbini Development Steering Committee.

UN Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator for Nepal Robert Piper posted a message in twitter that Ban’s visit will be rescheduled to allow more time for preparations for Lumbini conference and to avoid distracting current key peace negotiations.

The meeting of National Lumbini Development Steering Committee led by chairman of the UCPN (Maoist ) Pushpa Kamal Dahal had confirmed the date of the Secretary General’s Nepal visit on March 9.

During his visit to New York in November last year, Dahal had met Ban and invited him to visit Nepal. Ban had also accepted Dahal’s proposal to play a lead role for the development of greater Lumbini. nepalnews.com
