Top leaders of the major political parties have expressed their commitment to conclude twin task of concluding peace and promulgating new constitution by May 27 deadline.

Nepali Congress leader Ram Chandra Poudel gets surrounded by mediapersons after the meeting...Speaking at a programme organised by Reporters Club Nepal to mark its 14th anniversary in Kathmandu on Friday, they said the twin task will be completed on time as the parties have agreed on the most of the disputed issues.

Prime Minister and UCPN (Maoist) vice chairman Baburam Bhattarai said that significant progress has been made in peace process and remaining tasks will be completed before May 27, the deadline for promulgating new constitution.

Maoist chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal expressed his hope that the parties would forge consensus within a few days. He also said that timely promulgation of new constitution will be possible if the parties seek solution of the existing differences based on the decision of Army Integration Special Committee (AISC).

Nepali Congress president Sushil Koirala said that there was no alternative to conclude peace and constitution writing process by May 27.

Similarly, senior UML leader Madhav Nepal also expressed commitment that his party would also contribute for promulgation of the new constitution on time.

On the occasion, Reporters Club awarded editor of The Republica English daily Amit Dhakal with GP Koirala Memorial Senior Journalist award, chief reporter of Annapurna Post daily Kiran Pokhrel with Tarani Prasad Koirala Memorial award and Shuva Shankar Kandel of ABC TV with Krishna Sen Ichhchhuk Memorial award. nepalnews.com
