Army Integration Special Committee (AISC) is set to begin process of handing over UCPN (Maoist) combatants and weapons stored in the containers to Nepal Army from Sunday.
The AISC teams have already reached all seven main cantonments to start the process. The AISC has already offered opportunity to the combatants for the voluntary retirement for the second time to reduce the numbers of the combatants to be integrated to 6,500 from 9,706.
The technical team will also hand out paychecks to ex-Maoist combatants who have accepted voluntary retirement package. Those who choose the voluntary retirement will then be released from the cantonments and rehabilitation work will also kick off.
On Thursday, the AISC, responsible for supervision, integration and rehabilitation of Maoist combatants had endorsed a plan of action to evacuate the Maoist combatants from cantonments and hand over the weapons to Nepal Army by April 12. nepalnews.com
