Leaders of the main opposition Unified CPN (Maoist) and the ruling CPN (UML) met Friday afternoon in a bid to reach an understanding to break the deadlock in the legislature parliament, but they could not arrive at any conclusion.

Senior Maoist leader Narayan Kaji Shrestha told reporters after the meeting that his party was ready to allow the House to resume its normal business if the government maintained liberal approach towards the demands it has raised.

The Maoist party has been obstructing the regular proceedings of the parliament ever since the new government was formed, protesting the President's move reinstating the army chief sacked by the erstwhile Maoist government.

However, UML leader Bhim Acharya who was present at the meeting claimed that they were very close to reaching an understanding on resuming the House. He didn't divulge the details.

Also present in the meeting were Maoist leader Post Bahadur Bogati, UML leaders Pradeep Gyawali and Raghuji Pant, who is also Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal's chief political advisor.

Earlier this week, top leaders of the Unified-Maoist, Nepali Congress and UML had held bilateral and multilateral discussions on the issue, but failed to come to an agreement. nepalnews.com June 26 09
