Two persons of a same family were killed in a lightning strike in Ilam district on Sunday.

The deceased sisters have been identified as Sapana Rai, 14, and Binu Rai, 13 of Panchakanya VDC of the district. They had just returned to their house following a heavy shower while working in their field in the afternoon when the lightning struck their house and both were killed.

Locals said they were standing at the awning of the house without any slippers on when the lightning struck the house where earthing was not done, making it vulnerable to thunder effects.

In the past two weeks, twelve persons have killed and several others injured in separate lightning incidents across the country including Nuwakot, Chitwan, Syangja and Dadeldhura. nepalnews.com
